July and August work days will be work on your own projects, raffle quilt squares and/or name badges.

During the last workdays of the year, Beth reported that the program committee is going to try to get some instructors in for classes. Beth asked those present if they would prefer a catered lunch (for something different) or potluck on the workdays when there is an instructor. About half of those present were interested in a catered lunch, while the other half preferred potluck. Beth also asked the group if they would be willing to pay $10 or $20 for a class, as well as $10 to $20 for materials. Most of those present indicated the willingness to pay, depending on the class topic. Beth will take this information to the program committee as they begin to schedule some instructors.

In honor of Halloween, there will be a UFO exchange at the October guild meeting. Bring a UFO that you think someone might want as a treat or even as a trick.

Beth shared that quilt entries for the South Dakota State Fair need to be in by July 31, with the quilts needing to be there in August. For more information go to the State Fair website at sdstatefair.com.

Beth also had information on the Des Moines AQS classes in October. That information was passed around. The website is http://www.americanquilter.com/shows. Beth also passed around information on making scarves from old t-shirts.

NEXT TIME
Thursday, August 12, 7:00 p.m. Regular monthly business meeting. Don’t forget to come and socialize and work on a project anytime after 5:00 P.M. Bring a sack lunch.

Saturday, August 7, 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. –You may quilt on your own, work on the 2011 raffle quilt blocks or work on Charity Quilts. Lot’s to choose from. Don’t forget to bring a dish to share.

Tips: When measuring for your quilt backing, add an extra 10 inches. The extra piece is just the right size to make a matching sleeve. Or make the sleeve from swatches of all the fabrics you’ve used on the surface of the quilt. If a repair is needed later, you’ll have the original fabrics available. (Editor – I like this last idea).
