Ginny Coates moved to approve the minutes, and Laurna Nelson seconded the motion. No discussion. Unanimous approval.

TREASURER: Laurna Nelson read the Treasurer’s report. The current balance is $4,779.57. Pat Sheltens moved to approve the report as presented, and Caroline Standen
seconded the motion. No discussion. Unanimous approval.

CORRESPONDENCE: None.

OTHER OFFICER REPORTS:

VP: Quilts to be hung today are from Elaine Anderson, Ann Powers and Margaret Ellen Bartolome. Quilts to be hung in June will be provided by Shirley Green, Deloris Hagman and Helen Schillinger.

LIBRARIAN: Carolyn announced that gifts from Ellen Schwartz are available for check-out: light box and projector, and numerous wonderful quilting books. The Secretary will send a thank-you note to Ellen.

HISTORIAN: No report.

PROGRAM: The program this evening is the “ugly fat quarter contest.”
Fabrics contributed to the contest and any other ugly fabrics that people want to donate will be used at the June work day (June 4th) to create something for which Joan Nettinga will provide the pattern. The supply list for this project is attached.
Joan announced that there is a class tentatively scheduled for September 23rd and 24th. The instructor will be Ann Sines from Bear’s Den, who combines artistic creativity with technical expertise. There will be a trunk show on Friday evening, and the class will be Saturday.
Attendees will make a wall hanging using watercolor shade fabric crayons. A supply list will be provided. Ann Powers offered to stock the fabric crayons at Heartsong.
If you need a nametag printed for your Guild nametag, please let Joan know.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Charity Quilts: Please turn in heart blocks for New Zealand to Mary Sue Waxler within the
next two weeks. Beth Mazzella will print/provide a label for the back of the quilt.

OLD BUSINESS:
Fair basket: Helen Schillinger has provided a basket; all we need to do is fill it with prize-winner items, such as fat quarters, thread, notions, embellishments. Please bring contributions to the next business meeting, June 9th.
Summer Quilt Show: Ann and Brian Powers are organizers for this Guild quilt show, which will be held on the Evans porch on June 25th, in conjunction with Arts in the Park and the Miss SD parade. If you would like to display a quilt, please register by June 9th (see attached form). The show will be free. Guild members will be selling tickets for the raffle quilt (drawing at Christmas in the Hills). Also, Ann and Brian will donate a quilt to be raffled on June 25th—proceeds of this raffle will go to cover expense of the display, publicity, etc., and any remainder will go to the Guild. If you wish to sell a quilt, put a price tag and contact information on it. (The Guild will not be responsible for selling your quilt.)
Anyone may display a quilt, not just Guild members. A copy of the registration form will be printed in the Hot Springs Star. In the past, quilters from Custer have participated in Guild shows here. Quilts can be delivered to The Quilt Shop in Custer and a courier who works at the VA will bring them down to Heartsong, and return them again to Custer.
Ann Powers passed around a sign-up sheet for Guild members to help set up, tear down, and stay with the quilts during the day. If you can help, please give Ann or Julie a call at Heartsong.

NEW BUSINESS:
Get Well and Sympathy cards: Please contact Mary Sue Waxler if a card should be sent on behalf of the Guild.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
1. Laurna has made raffle tickets, saving the Guild megabucks. (You can make
perforations by running your sewing machine needle across the paper. Without thread.) Get your tickets to sell from Laurna. Laurna will be responsible for moving the quilt display among various businesses.
2. Black Hills Quilt Show—registration is now closed.
3. There is such a thing as a sheet iron cleaner. Elaine purchased some and it is in the cupboard with the irons for use at workdays.
4. Remember to bring a potluck dish to share.
Tips: If a quilt is made to be used and will be washed, some quilters like to loosely zigzag the edge after the quilting is finished and then wash the quilt before adding the binding. Heavily quilted areas will shrink more than those that are lightly quilted, leading to uneven, distorted edges. Once the quilt is washed, it can be blocked and dried flat before the edge is cleaned up and binding is added.

Ugly Fabric Supply List:
Jewels in the Rough Cutting Instructions
You will need three fabrics to go with your Ugly fabric: a coordinating light fabric, a coordinating medium fabric and a black or black-on-black print fabric.
From your Ugly fabric: Cut eight 2 x 5” rectangles
From the black or black tonal print: Cut one 3.5 x 18” strip
Cut two 2 x 10” strips
Cut eight 2” squares
Cut four 2 x 12.5” strips
From the medium coordinate: Cut one 2 x 18” strip
Cut one 2 x 10” strip
Cut four 2” squares
From the light coordinate:
Cut one 3.5” square
Cut eight 2” squaresMinnekahta Quilt Guildhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10192252665655997864noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2574872211128526088.post-13181272401532543442011-04-28T12:42:00.002-06:002011-04-28T12:46:12.642-06:00April NewsletterMINUTES

MINNEKAHTA QUILTERS GUILD MINUTES

April 14, 2011

CALL MEETING TO ORDER:

President Elaine Anderson called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. There were 27 members present and 2 guests, Gina and Leslie Elmore.

MINUTES:

Delores Hagman moved to approve the minutes from the March 2011 meeting and Cora seconded the motion. Unanimous approval. Shirley recorded the March minutes, in the absence of Secretary Judy.

TREASURER:

Laurna Nelson read the Treasurer's report. The beginning balance being $4,622.27 and income deposited from 2011 membership dues is $210.00 and expenses paid out to Bev Carlson are $97.70 leaving an ending balance of $4,734.57. Julie Standen moved to approve the report as read and Margaret Ellen seconded the motion.

DISCUSSION:

There are now 54 members in the guild this year. Judy Gifford is resigning from the secretary position so we will be looking for someone to take over that position.

OTHER OFFICER REPORTS:
VP:

Margaret Ellen, Elaine Anderson, and Ann Powers are the members who will be hanging quilts for the month of May.

Librarian:

Caroline has the new Quilters magazine and it will be put into the library.

Historian:

Helen had no report.

Program:

Joan announced that for the May meeting we are to sort thru our stash and get a fat quarter that is the ugliest fabric we have, so we can do an ugly fabric challenge contest. We are to bring it to the meeting in a plain wrapper or somehow so no one else will be able to see what it is and we will all vote for the ugliest piece of fabric and the owner of the winning fabric will win a prize. Then at the June workday we will follow up with a piece of fabric to make a block using a new technique.

Beth announced that last month was the last month to get our blocks finished so that the recipients can get them put together. So we won't have any more Block of the month drawings until August.

We are to work on our 2011 Centennial Block Harvest fair blocks and plan to show them in the month of July.

Ballots were passed around to get our ideas and opinions for what everyone wanted to do for block of the month from now on. (Edit. See end of Newsletter for ballot results.) We want to hear your great ideas. The new idea will be announced in July and in August we will begin the new block of the month. So in May, June and July work on your fair blocks.

COMMITTEE REPORTS: None

CHARITY QUILTS: None

OLD BUSINESS:

Rosie Elmore and her two daughters, Leslie and Gina, were present at this time. Rosie was presented with two quilts. The first, a quilt from Christa Achtenberg that she and Deb Winter made for Rosie. The quilt was entitled “Modern Rose”. The second, was a quilt made with blocks contributed from Guild members, with a western and gardening theme, including pictures of Rosie and her horses.

SUMMER SHOW: Ann and Brian Powers will be chairing a summer quilt show. They have obtained permission to have it on the veranda of the Evans Hotel. A committee will need to be generated to help with this event. We need helpers as it will be during the same weekend of the arts and crafts in the park and the Miss SD pageant. The date for this is Saturday June 25th. We will need to know who is going to be around then and willing to work on that Saturday and also who is willing to donate quilts to be hung. A sheet was passed around for sign up to help work and to hang quilts.

A motion was made by Beth to proceed with the quilt show and the motion was seconded by Stacey.

DISCUSSION: Blocks for the New Zealand and Japan earthquake crisis were discussed and it was mentioned that the New Zealand website says we are not to just send blocks but they wanted finished quilts instead of just quilt blocks or a cash donation. A motion was made to send $200.00 to the New Zealand and Japan earthquake crisis by way of the Red Cross. Discussion followed and motion failed by a show of hands.

NEW BUSINESS:

FAIR: Karen spoke about the fair this year and we will have the same awards as last year with the exception of an award from Nuts and Bolts in that this year they will be donating a $25.00 gift certificate to be given away for the harvest block. We will be collecting quilting items in June for the winner's basket so bring any quilting items that will make a nice winners basket.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

The B H Quilt Show is June 10-12 with quilt registration due by May 3rd.

The Chadron Festival of Quilts is the weekend of April 15 thru 17th.

Copies of the current by-laws are available and every member is encouraged to get a copy.

The 2012 raffle quilt center is done but it needs a vine appliquéd on the border. We are looking for anyone (4 people) to appliqué on it. It is needed back by June to put the corners together.

The 2011 quilt is done and tickets are available to start selling.

NEXT BUSINESS MEETING: May 12th at 7:00 p.m., brown bag social at 5:00 p.m

NEXT WORKDAY: May 7th at 9:00 a.m. with noon potluck.

ADJOURN: Jan W. motioned for meeting to adjourn and motion was seconded by Pat C.

PROGRAM: Presentation of quilts to Rosie.

SHOW AND TELL:

Laurna Nelson: Round robin block

Elaine Anderson: Round robin block, Laurna's block

Pat Martin: Hummingbird block for Pearl, Fall block for Caroline, Heart block for Laurna, Iris Block for Ginny, Round robin block for Sandy Taylor, two blocks for Margaret Ellen, picture of William Morris' bed runner, two wall hangings

Carolyn Terrill: Laurna's block

Julie Standen: Round robin block for Cindy Reed, Laurna's block, two blocks for New Zealand earthquake, four autumn table runners, showed round robin quilts completed by Ann Powers and Caroline Standen

Sheryl Brost: Yo Yo square, Snowman wall hanging, 2 Heart blocks for New Zealand, Laurna's block

Marilyn Rowley:Laurna's heart block

Bobbie Augustine: Laurna's heart block, 2 blocks for Margaret Ellen, 2 heart blocks for New Zealand

Cora Fugier: Laurna's heart block

Deloris Hagman - Laurna's heart block

Karen Meston - 2 Dear Jane blocks for Margaret Ellen, heart block for Laurna

Margaret Bartolome - Laurna's block, hanky wall hanging

Jan Weisser - Laurna's Round Robin, Laurna's block, Autumn Sisters quilt

Ginny Coates - Round Robin block, Laurna's heart block, Pat's thimble block, bag from Fort Dodge, Iowa

Ruth Angerhofer: fair theme quilt by Material Girls, 4th of July table runner

Lynda Andersen: Tile Block, candle mat, 15 minute table runner, spring flowers table runner, winter block exchange from Material Girls

Sandy Taylor: Round Robin block

Delores Hickman - Laurna's block

Stacey Martin: Trapunto block example

Cindy Reed: Laurna's heart block, round robin block

Sherry Nusbaum: Pat Martin's block, 2 blocks for Margaret Ellen, Laurna's block, and appliqué quilt

Beth Mazzella: 2 blocks for Laurna, round robin block, pie wall hanging, fantasy island wall hanging

Joan Nettinga: Table runner

Christa Achtenberg and Deb Winter: Modern Rose quilt

NEXT TIME

Thursday, May 12, 7:00 p.m. Regular monthly business meeting. Try creating a border unit that repeats an element from a unit or group of units in the body of the quilt design.

Block of the Month Balloting:

Results...

What our balloting proved is that we are a flexible group ready to try different projects and yet comfortable with what we've done. Thank you to all who participated.

Block of the Month: 9 voted for a calendar/monthly theme, 8 to continue the "winner's choice" approach, 5 to do a BOM and keep the block for yourself, and 5 for a random 'winner gets whatever approach'. There were 2 suggestions, first to draw a random block design for the month and second, to do this every other month. We had 10 votes for a mystery quilt over a 3-4 month time frame and one emphatic NO to this project. Doing a Sudoku puzzle in fabric or fracturing a poster/picture and replicating it in fabric both got 4 votes. Under "how about?", small wall hangings (Patchabilities style) and wool/felt projects were suggested. There were 4 write-in votes for a cookie block exchange (make x number of the same block and share them).

In July, the next series will be announced and we'll plan to get started for the fall. Don't forget to do a block for the Block Harvest for the Centennial of the Fall River Co Fair. By this we mean blocks going to another quilter, an item nearly finished but being given away before the next meeting, blocks being sent to a competition... The "Tell" segment is for sharing information about anything you would like to share. This is where you could "tell" us about the neat website with free patterns; and, if you show an example of this, the item should reappear when it is finished. You may also quilt on your own or work on Charity Quilts. Don’t forget to bring a dish to share.

Thursday, May 13, 7:00 p.m. Regular monthly business meeting.

Supply List for Scrappy Star: 1] 12 -- 12 inch squares of 12 different fabrics: 6 fabrics of one color and 6 of another. They should have good contrast so the star is not lost [unless you are going for subtlety]. While they do not need to be exactly 12 inches square they can be no less than 12 inches square.

2] Freezer paper--enough for 2-- 12 inch squares and marker
3] mat and rotary cutter
4] 9 1/2 inch square up ruler is a good idea...
5] a ruler at least 18" long--any width ok
6] sewing machine, thread, pins etc.
7} The pattern recommends small labels but masking tape works just fine...

This set up makes 12 blocks and they finish 9" square. These 12 blocks will make a crib size quilt if you add borders. If you want to add borders you will need approximately 1/4 yd for an inner border and 2/3 yard for an outer border.

Tips: As tempting as it may be to jump right in and cut all the pieces of a quilt at once, slow down and make a sample block first to check that you really like the colors as much as you thought you would and that the sizing of your pattern pieces is correct. Adjusting patterns is much easier than trying to fix cut patches.Minnekahta Quilt Guildhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10192252665655997864noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2574872211128526088.post-41194955080981175452010-03-28T12:08:00.000-06:002010-03-28T12:16:33.138-06:00March 2010 NewsletterMINNEKAHTA QUILTERS GUILD MINUTES

March 11, 2010

CALL MEETING TO ORDER: President Elaine Anderson called the meeting to order at 7:04 PM. Place one pin exactly where the seams should match, one to the left, and one to the right. Then remove the center pin. Sew to each pin, remove it, and sew on. Check the pins you are using – replace them if needed with much finer pins. Using thinner pins and the three-pin method vastly improves the ability to match seams accurately.
Also, remember to press the seams in opposite directions and the seams will nestle together, creating a perfect matchMinnekahta Quilt Guildhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10192252665655997864noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2574872211128526088.post-74724778081145630222009-12-28T12:22:00.001-07:002009-12-28T12:25:33.345-07:00December NewsletterMINNEKAHTA QUILTERS GUILD MINUTES

December 10, 2009

CALL MEETING TO ORDER: President Julie Standen called the meeting to order at 7 PM. This project isn’t one of those “your background has to be light” quilts. I’ve seen or done it in a variety of combinations and it looks great. That said, I would suggest choosing your fabrics in this manner:
Background: can be light, dark, small scale or a focal print. Just about anything goes so pick something you like, as this is the one you see the most of in your finished project.
Fabric A: should have good contrast to your background, small scale if a print.
Fabric B: this one should be the one that has the most contrast to all your fabrics and should be a solid or tonal print as the finished pieces are small.
Fabric C: should contrast well with A, can be tonal or small to medium scale print.
Fabric D: should have good contrast to A and B, tonal or small print.
A final note on selecting your fabrics: the fun is in the mystery, it only takes 1&1/8 yards of fabric and not much of a time investment. Worry about Iraq, global warming or swine flu, but relax about choosing your fabrics!
General sewing supplies needed: rotary cutter, mat and ruler, sewing machine that works and you know how to operate, cotton thread to blend with your fabrics, fine point pencil or permanent marker, scissors.

To complete your top in class, you will need to come with the following pre-cut:
Background fabric:
Cut 2) 2.25” x 40” strips
Cut 1) 9.5” x 40” strip from which you first cut a 9.5” square. Cut the square diagonally in quarters to make four triangles. Take the remainder of the
9.5”strip and trim to 6”, and cut the following: 3) 6” x 6” squares, 4) 2.5” x 6” rectangles, 4) 2.5” x 3” rectangles and 2) 2.5” squares.
Fabric A:
Cut 6) 3” x 3” squares; Cut 8) 1.25” x 20” strips
Fabric B:
Cut 4) 1.75” x 20” strips & then cut into 32) 1.75” x 1.75” squares
Fabric C:
Cut 4) 3” x 3” squares
Fabric D:
Cut 4) 1.5” x 20” strips

If you have any questions, feel free to email me at: joannettinga@hotmail.com

NEXT TIME

Thursday, October 8, 7:00 p.m. Regular monthly business meeting.

Saturday, September 3 – Mystery table runner class. The pictures here are of those quilts and the presentation.

When you are frightened, or hurt, feeling alone and unsure, getting a loving hug or being wrapped in something soft and warm can be a welcome antidote. The Minnekahta Quilters’ Guild recently presented 13 quilted ‘hugs’ to organizations in the Hot Springs community. The SD State Veterans’ Home, represented by Randy Meyers, was the beneficiary of 4 quilts designated for veteran residents in the Men’s’ Home. At the same time, Fall River County Sheriff Jeff Tarrell accepted 5 quilts and stuffed toys for children who are in contact with his office. The SD Department of Social Services also received 4 quilts and toys for children in their care. Social Services was represented by Dena Harrod, Jenny Disher and her daughters Stormy and Nina at the Guild presentation.
Guild President Julie Standen said: “While the primary purpose of the guild is to promote quilting and educate our members, what better way to accomplish those goals than by sharing what we enjoy.” All the fabric and related materials were donated by members of the guild. Quilters sewed and shared in 3 work days plus countless hours at home putting together blocks and quilting. Guild members had not only the fun of sewing, they learned and tried new ideas, laughed a lot, and build stronger friendships which made these gifts truly antidotes to hard times.
The Guild meets monthly, the second Thursday of each month, at 7 pm, in the auditorium of the State Veterans Home. Quilters, those interested in or wanting to learn to quilt are welcome to join them.Minnekahta Quilt Guildhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10192252665655997864noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2574872211128526088.post-5695997036413413482009-08-30T14:16:00.002-06:002009-08-30T14:47:00.015-06:00August Newsletter 09MINNEKAHTA QUILTERS GUILD MINUTES

August 13, 2009

CALL MEETING TO ORDER: President Julie Standen called the meeting to order at 7 PM. No discussion. Unanimous approval.

TREASURER: Delores presented the financial report. The current balance is $2,658.10. Income this past month was $124.50, and expenses were $240.06.
Finances: Delores Hagman inquired as why there is so much money in the guild’s treasury. Karen explained why the balance is maintained at the level it is…to avoid a situation similar to a few years ago, where the treasury had no funds. Also, a portion of the funds currently in the treasury are actually from the sales of raffle tickets, and will be used toward the 2010 guild programs.

LIBRARIAN: Jan stated that she has been working on re-arranging the library. It is not sorted by category, author and title. The contents of the library are listed alphabetically, by title, in a notebook. When checking out a book, pull the card from the book, sign your name to it, and place the card in the blue box. When you return the book, take the card from the blue box and put it back in the book. The guild thanked Jan for her hard work.

Jan then passed around the order forms for the new books.

HISTORIAN: There was no historian report. Helen stated that she will need three quilts to hang next month.

PROGRAM: Sue reviewed the list of class recommendations submitted by guild members and sought clarification about some of the names listed as potential teachers.

July 18 Leaf Shadow Class: Bobbie reported that this class went well. She handed out the instructions used for the class. These are a more accurate revision of the instructions given out the day of the class.

October Mystery Table Runner Class: Joan handed out the supply list for this project, and passed around the sign-up sheet. The class will be on October 3. Joan will be teaching the class, and she stated that if we come to the class with our fabrics pre-cut, we should go home with a finished project. The class will start at 9 AM. Be sure to bring a pot luck item.

UFOs: Cora asked guild members to get with her after the meeting, so she can make sure that all completed UFO’s have been marked off. All UFOs need to be completed and presented by the November meeting. If you have not completed your UFOs by the November meeting, bring to the meeting a fat quarter for each UFO not completed. The fat quarters will be distributed during the December meeting.

Challenge Quilt: The challenge quilts should be done by the November meeting. They will then be displayed at the quilt show during Christmas in the Hills. The “People’s Choice” award at the show will be selected from the challenge quilts.

Christmas Fat Quarters: Fat quarters will not be given out out as gifts to guild members during the Christmas party this year. Rather, bring an unwanted UFO, (wrapped) to the party, and there will be a UFO gift exchange. Make it pretty so someone will want it!!

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

2009 CITH Raffle Quilt: The raffle quilt is currently on display at the Quilt Shop in Custer. It will be there until the end of August. If anyone happens to be in Custer toward the end of the month please collect it and bring it back to town so it can go to another location next month.

2010 CITH Raffle Quilt: Beth stated that the 2010 raffle quilt will go on the frame after August 22. The Tuesday morning group, and any others who wish, will be quilting on it. Just be sure to check the State Home auditorium for availability. Beth showed the quilt top made from the left over nine patches. This quilt will go on the frame after the raffle quilt is done. The guild will need to discuss, at a later date, what will be done with this quilt once it is completed.

OLD BUSINESS:

Update By-Laws: The by-law revisions have been completed and passed by the guild. Copies have been made, and each member is encouraged to pick up a copy after tonight’s meeting. Extra copies will be kept in the library so they are available to new members.

Operating Guidelines: Julie is looking for volunteers to help put together operating guidelines. This document would outline what officers and committee members (i.e. CITH; County Fairs; etc.) do and how they do it. Stacy and Beth volunteered to help collect this information. They do request that the information be sent to them in word documents so it will be easy to consolidate the information.

Guild Flyer: Ann and Brian are working on these. Joan has volunteered to help with project. Ann will bring some ideas to the next meeting. It would nice to have the flyers ready by CITH.

NEW BUSINESS:

County Fair: The fair is over, and pictures of the winners are on the guild’s blog. Karen has emailed a report on the winners to all the members. Karen reported that there were over 60 entries. There were no youth entries for the second year in a row. Karen suggested that we think of ways to involve the youth, through 4-H, in quilting.

Charity Quilts: On the September 12 work day, we will be working on charity quilts. At the September meeting, Beth will be presenting the completed charity quilts to the State Home and the Sheriff’s Office. NOTE: in September the work day will be after the monthly meeting.

Hot Springs Heritage Festival: This is sponsored by the Hot Springs Chamber Arts Committee and will be September 18, 19, and 20. It replaces the Artoberfest Art Walk. The goal of this festival is to recreate the early 1900’s. Businesses in town will be doing something related to that era. Brian Powers, as a member of the Chamber of Commerce approached Julie with the idea of guild members having period quilts on display at HeartSong during this time. He suggested older quilts similar to those displayed earlier this summer when we had a small showing of quilts from the 30-40s. This would not be a show, just a display. Also, some of our hand-quilters may want to be in the shop demonstrating their talents. If interested, have your quilts to the shop by September 17.

Edgemont OctoberFest: Julie will call Lynda Anderson to inquire if Edgemont is planning this event for this Fall, and if they would like our guild to participate. It also might be a good opportunity to display our raffle quilt and sell tickets.

Name Tags: Beth suggested that name tags, for members, could be something that would be helpful in getting to know each other, as well as helping new members get to know members. Julie will put this suggestion to the program committee for consideration.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

1. Let Helen know if you have a quilt to display at the State Home.

2. Beth has re-cycled plastic containers on the back table. These make good project containers, and storage for other items. Take some home with you, if you are interested.

3. Guild Blog/Email site: Be sure to check each month for any changes. Address is http://minnekahtaquiltguild.blogspot.com.

4. Hill City Outdoor Quilt Show and Sale: The Hill City businesses are sponsoring a quilt show on Sunday, September 13 from 9 AM until 4 PM. Informational brochures will be dropped off at Heart Song. On Monday and Tuesday, following the show there will be a quilt class. There is more information at their website, www.hillcityquiltshow.com.

5. Arlene announced that Jan Sears will be at the Hill City quilt show and will be available to appraise quilts.

6. Elections of Officers in October: Julie reminded the guild that soon a nominating committee will be put together and will be asking guild members to fill officer positions, as well as the program committee. Please give some thought to filling one of these positions when asked. It takes the help of many people to keep a guild functional. We are all busy people, but if we want to continue having an active and fun guild, we need you to be willing to help. Don’t be afraid to try. Officers from previous years are available and willing to help. Please consider volunteering if you get a call from the Nominating Committee!

NEXT BUSINESS MEETING: The next business meeting will be September 10 at 7 PM. Note that this is before the September workday.

NEXT WORKDAY: September 12; Charity Quilt work day.

ADJOURN: Meeting was adjourned at 8 PM.

BLOCK DRAWING: Judy Gifford won the block drawing and has chosen flowers as her theme. Judy would like these to be on a cream colored background, and 12-1/2 inches square.

SHOW AND TELL:

Caroline Standen: High heel block; 4 9 patch blocks.
Julie Standen: Two baby quilts. 4 – 9 patch blocks.
Laurna Nelson: 4 -9 patch blocks.
Bobbie Augustine: 4 – 9 patch blocks; yoyo quilt; leaf shadow table runner; star quilt.
Sheryl Brost: Shoe Block; 4 9 patch blocks.
Helen Schillinger: 4 – 9 patch blocks.
Peg Kaan: Strip Mine.
Sue Cleland: Gloria’s flower block; 4 – 9 patch blocks.
Cora Fugier: UFO table runner; Gutsy Geisha.
Delores Hagman: 4 – 9 patch blocks; Quilt in the making; table runner.
Sandy Taylor: Squares for Stacy.
Elaine Anderson: Tuesday morning UFO; Challenge quilt.
Beth Mazella: Fall colors and leftover star.
Ann Powers: Shoe Block.
Jesse Powers: Artwork.
Judy Gifford: Leaf shadow; Paper pieced star; purse.
MJ Varick: High heel block.
Stacy Martin: French braid table runner.

NEXT TIME

Thursday, September 10, 7:00 p.m. Regular monthly business meeting.

Saturday, September 12 – Charity Quilts. Try creating a border unit that repeats an element from a unit or group of units in the body of the quilt design.Minnekahta Quilt Guildhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10192252665655997864noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2574872211128526088.post-25158957828164273032009-08-13T12:05:00.002-06:002009-08-13T12:11:55.902-06:002009 Fall River County Fair Quilt Awards and RibbonsSpecial Awards:

Best of Show – Gift basket with $50 from Minnekahta Quilters’ Guild
Becky Cooper
People’s Choice - $50 gift certificate from The Quilt Shop
Becky Cooper
Judge’s Choice - $50 gift certificate from The Sewing Center
Marcia Busskohl
Senior Award, - $25 gift certificate from The Quilt Connection, Etc.
Helen Schillinger
Wall Hangings - $25 gift certificate from Thimble Cottage
Carolyn Terrill
Other Quilts (Lots 67-70) - $25 gift certificate from Thimble Cottage
Natalie Stalcup
Large Quilts - $25 gift certificate from HeartSong Quilts
Becky Cooper
Small Quilts - $25 gift certificate from HeartSong Quilts
Ruth Angerhofer

Ribbons:

Large Quilts, machine pieced or appliquéd, hand quilted
Blue Ruth Angerhofer
Large Quilts, machine pieced or appliquéd, machine quilted (self)
Blue Elaine Anderson
Red Sandy Taylor
White Cora Fugier
Large Quilts, machine pieced or appliquéd, professionally quilted
Blue Becky Cooper
Red Marcia Busskohl
White Becky Cooper
Small Quilts, hand pieced or appliquéd, hand quilted
Blue Elaine Anderson
Red Beth Mazzella
White Pat Martin
Small Quilts, machine pieced or appliquéd, machine quilted (self)
Blue Christa Achtenburg
Red Bev Carlson
White Bobbie Augustine
Small Quilts, machine pieced or appliquéd, machine quilted, professionally quilted
Blue Natalie Stalcup
Red Julie Standen
White Natalie Stalcup
Small Quilts, mixed techniques
Blue Ruth Angerhofer
Red Bobbie Augustine
Wall Hangings, hand pieced or appliquéd, hand quilted
Red Stacey Martin
Wall Hangings, machine pieced or appliquéd, hand quilted
Blue Beth Mazzella
Wall Hangings, machine pieced or appliquéd, machine quilted (self)
Blue Elaine Anderson
Red Bev Carlson
Wall Hangings, mixed techniques
Blue Carolyn Terrill
Red Pat Sheltons
White Shirley Green
Wall Hangings, holiday theme
Red Natalie Stalcup
Table Runner
Blue Earleen Kellog
Red Earleen Kellog
White Ruth Angerhofer
Bags
Blue Natalie Stalcup
Red Natalie Stalcup
White Natalie Stalcup
Child or Baby Quilt, machine quilted
Blue Bev Carlson
Red Elaine Anderson
White Beth Mazzella
Group Quilt
Blue Julie Standen
Red Beth Mazzella
Miscellaneous
Blue Carolyn TerrillMinnekahta Quilt Guildhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10192252665655997864noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2574872211128526088.post-78691145388687938592009-07-13T22:36:00.001-06:002009-07-13T22:36:48.612-06:00Fall River County Fair Quilt Categories70.
